Interested in having your writing published in Boilerplate Mag? Read on for our guidelines on what we’re looking for.

General Guidelines

  • We accept submissions from anywhere, but we have a soft spot for writers based in Melbourne or Australia.

  • All submissions must be previously unpublished (personal blogs or social media is fine).

  • Simultaneous submissions are fine – just let us know if your piece is accepted somewhere else.

  • We ask for first publication rights and non-exclusive archival rights (so we can keep your work online). Copyright remains with you.

  • Submissions are currently unpaid.

  • To submit, you must be a free subscriber to Boilerplate Mag. Subscribe here:

Fiction

We are looking for mostly literary fiction, but welcome genre fiction with literary bents; think things like surreal speculative fiction or philosophical horror. Submissions should be below 5000 words. We also love flash fiction (below 1000 words).

Non-Fiction

In non-fiction, we are looking for journalistic or blog-style pieces. These might be on current affairs, such as politics, internet drama or culture, think-pieces, etc. They might also be personal essays in a creative non-fiction style. Submissions should be between 2000 and 5000 words.

Poetry

For poetry, we are looking for works of up to 50 lines.

Format

  • Submit as a .doc, .docx, or .pdf file

  • Use a readable font (Times New Roman, Garamond, or similar, 12 pt)

  • Title your file: Genre_LastNameFirstName_Title (e.g. Fiction_WuAnna_SeveralThingsToNote)
